  • The Beginnings

In November 1947, Oscar Stempler purchased a small industrial laundry plant in Maryland. The business consisted of 1 1/2 routes, a handful of employees and only 2 rental accounts. By 1949, we had expanded into North Carolina.

After a reorganization in 1968, all the Stempler family businesses were consolidated under the Textilease Corporation name. The business still remains a Stempler Family Tradition.

We have seven plants, 11 distribution centers, our own garment manufacturing plant, a central warehousing and purchasing facility, and an executive office with central computer operations. Over 1,000 Textilease employee-associates serve nearly 30,000 rental customers from Maryland through Georgia. More than 200 route vans and other vehicles travel over 10 million miles per year.

Textilease has over 550 distributors of Medique and MediFirst over-the-counter medications and safety supplies in the United States. Textilease Quick-Aid is a leading distributor of first aid, medical and safety supplies throughout the southeast with division headquarters located in Norcross, Georgia.

All locations are linked via a computer network which provides rapid access to customer information. Our laundries feature the most modern equipment and technology available. The Textilease management team is viewed as being one of the most competent in our industry. We are involved in community and industry affairs, giving our time and support unselfishly. Our President and CEO, Denis Thomas, is the Chairman of the Uniform & Textile Service Association. Textilease has had four winners – the most in the industry – of the prestigious Gus Eggerling Award from the Institute of Industrial Launderers, presented for outstanding service to the industry.

Our market areas expand as growth continues. We constantly search for more and better products and utilize our strong financial resources in research.

Textilease is not just a tradition of family ownership. It operates much as a family unit. Consideration and concern are given to all associates. Our comprehensive fringe-benefit package is competitive with any industry. All associates participate in a quarterly bonus system. Associates are encouraged to continue their education at the company’s expense. A scholarship program is available to associates’ dependents.

All management opportunities are communicated and associates encouraged to apply. Whenever possible, promotions are made from within.

Over 30% of employees have 10 years of service, over 5% have 25 years, and there are several with 35 years. This certainly exemplifies the family tradition.

Customers become part of our family too. We take care of our customers just as one takes care of a family member, and we never want to lose a member of our ever-growing family. THAT’S TEXTILEASE DEPENDABILITY.
